Tackling Game

  • from GE
  • (most easily done around the center circle)
  • xs and os are each on a team
  • opposite lines are labeled 1 and 2
  • coach calls out a number
  • the player in that line from each team sprints a quarter around the circle, around the next cone and to the ball
  • whoever gets there first is on offense and attempts to bring the ball to their other line
  • the ball must be dribbled to the cone (or thereabouts; this can vary based on skill and level)
  • player stays in that line once they get there

Juggling / Skill Contest

UNC Women’s Soccer Twitter feed posted this. Probably a bit above the skill level of my players, but a fun thing to try, perhaps.

Packing Stats Article

Thought I had posted this, but apparently not. This is the article on packing stats, which measure how many defenders are beaten by a play or pass.

Simple Shooting Drill

Saw GE do this today. Liked the simplicity and the pace.

  • One on one with defender (at goal) serving to attacker.
  • Only rule is that attacker has to take a touch (no one touch shots).
  • Lines alternate serving (they’re obviously not going simultaneously).
  • Rotate counter clockwise when done.

Coach Evaluation Form

My (first) club season just ended and I’m trying to put together an eval form to give to parents and players. I hit the internet and here are some good examples of what I found (I’ll post mine at the bottom):

  • Medfield Youth Soccer (Medfield, MA): I could pretty much end here, the first hit on Google. This form seems pretty complete, both in terms of closed- and open-ended questions and in terms of what it covers. I like both the tone and the comprehensiveness.
  • Framingham United (Framingham, MA): I also like this one, as it brings a bit more detail and specificity to some of the same categories as the Medfield one.
  • (So I realized as I went through the Google results that all of the evals are relatively similar; I will leave the Medfield and Framingham ones as interesting variations of the same theme.)

And here is mine (adapted from the Medfield and FUSC evals):
