Finishing from Leyton Orient Strikers

17 Jun

I like the simplicity of this drill, especially because of the number of shots the goalie gets, but it requires the patience and focus of a professional, i.e. my JV girls would lose interest quickly. So I would modify it in the following ways:

  • pull back the shooters; my goalie(s) would not regain their confidence the way the coach says his will
  • put a cone inside the 18 beyond which they can’t shoot (for the running-onto-the-ball segments); my team wants their shots to be on as slow a ball as possible, something I’m constantly trying to correct
  • make the defender a live, semi-passive defender: the yellow mannequin becomes an actual defender, but she can’t move until the shooter has touched the ball
