Steve here from Soccer Drills & Practice Plans:
Today, I’ve got a fun drill for you to incorporate into your soccer practices.
I call this one “Soccer Dodge Ball” and it’s designed to improve your players dribbling and passing skills.
To begin, use cones to mark off a playing area 35 yards square.
Divide your team into 2 equal teams (ideally each team will have between 6 and 10 players).
Team A begins inside the square without balls.
Team B begins outside the square, each player has a ball.
On your whistle, team B players dribble into the square the try to pass their balls to make contact with a Team A player.
Passes need to be made with the inside or outside of the foot and only count if they contact a player below the knee.
Team A can move anywhere within the square to avoid being hit with the ball.
When a Team A player is hit with a ball, they are “out” and have to leave the playing square.
(I usually have eliminated players run laps until the drill is over so that they aren’t wasting time).
Play continues until all Team A players are out.
Repeat the drill with the teams switching roles.
Whichever team eliminates all their opponents in the least amount of time, wins.
